If your site runs on WordPress, this matters to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What WordPress 7.0 brought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An AI client in core, letting plugins connect to models from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google in a standard way<\/li>\n\n<li>A refreshed admin, with updated components, colours and typography<\/li>\n\n<li>New blocks and Site Editor improvements, such as icons, breadcrumbs and text columns<\/li>\n\n<li>Performance improvements in block rendering and database queries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Real-time editing, Google Docs style, was planned but left out because it was not yet stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What WordPress 7.1 brought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notes: comments and suggestions inside the editor, so teams can review content before publishing<\/li>\n\n<li>Per-device styling: adjust blocks for tablet and mobile without writing CSS<\/li>\n\n<li>Image processing in the browser, which eases the load on the server and supports formats such as WebP and AVIF<\/li>\n\n<li>New blocks, such as tabs and playlists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Should I update now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, but with a method. New versions bring important security fixes, and falling behind is the biggest risk on a WordPress site. What usually goes wrong is old plugins or themes that have not kept up, especially custom blocks built a few years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to update safely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take a full backup of the site and the database<\/li>\n\n<li>Test the update first on a staging site<\/li>\n\n<li>Check that your server runs PHP 8.2 or 8.3<\/li>\n\n<li>Update plugins and theme before WordPress itself<\/li>\n\n<li>After updating, test forms, checkout and key pages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your WordPress site is a few years old and you are not sure what is installed, a technical review before updating saves a lot of trouble.
